Introduction to the Vietnamese Coffee
The Vietnamese style of coffee making has gained her popularity and fame world-wide. Premium Vietnamese Coffee, Highlands Coffee, has successfully combined the western life style of drinking coffee with the traditional charm of Vietnamese culture. Things you need to make a cup of Vietnamese Coffee with milk or Coffee Black.
A Metal Phin Filter* which looks like a tiny cup and saucer. This Vietnamese coffee filter consists of 4 parts:
(a) The filter body.
(b) The metal saucer.
(c) Removable screw-type screen
(d) Lid
(e) Condense Milk or Sugar
(f) A Cup
The Vietnamese filter is light, reusable, affordable and high mobility i.e. able to bring along when travelling. However, its greatest advantage is, it enables to brew small amount of coffee such as 1 cup without the need of a conventional coffee maker or machine.
5 Steps To Make Vietnamese Coffee
1. Put 4 teaspoons (heap full) of the ground coffee (about 20 grams) into the filter body.
2. Shake the filter body to level the ground coffee, then screw the screen in to tamp the coffee lightly (DO NOT over tighten the screen!)
3. Sit both the filter body and saucer on top of the empty cup. (To make Vietnamese coffee with milk, you need to put 2-3 spoons of condensed milk, otherwise you can put in sugar to make coffee black, into the empty cup beforehand)
4. Pour a little boiling water into the filter body and leave it, till the ground coffee fully absorbed the boiling water.
5. Once the water has been absorbed, fill up the chamber with boiling water and cover it with the lid to retain heat. Wait 1-2 minutes for the water to drain through. Once the process is finished, place the whole filter (body and saucer) onto the inverted lid.
Note:
1. If the dripping process takes longer than you expected, perhaps you have over tighten the screen such that the ground coffee is overly packed, try to loosen the screen.
